Mighty Waves of the Sea

Hello! I hope your week is going well. Mine has been a busy but good week. It's time for another Word Art Wednesday Challenge. This week we're focusing on Psalm 93:4, "The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea." When you stand on the ocean shore and gaze out over the waves, you can't help but be amazed at the power and majesty of the ocean. Sometimes, the waves roll gently to shore and at other times they crash and roar. The Lord, the Creator of all, is mightier than the powerful waves of the ocean and in fact, controls their movements.  Sometimes in our lives, it seems like the waves of trials roar and crash against our souls and we wonder, "Does God know? Does He care?" He is mightier than those types of waves too. He does care and He is right there beside you to guide you safely to the shore. At least 15 times in the book of Psalms, God is spoken of as our refuge. My two favorites are: Psalm 57:1, "Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast." and Psalm 91:2, "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust." If the trials in your life seem to be threatening to toss you in the billowing waves, turn to the Lord and allow Him to be your refuge.

When I read this week's verse, I knew the papers from the By the Shore collection by Our Daily Bread Designs would be perfect for it. I chose to make a center step card and used two of the papers from the collection on the front.

The sentiment panel was matted and popped up at an angle over a ribbon loop accented with a button and baker's twine. I die cut some birds from a scrap of patterned paper. After adhering them to the card front and sentiment panel, they were coated first with Wink of Stella and then with Nuvo Jewel Drops. I really like the epoxy look they have. A trio of sequins finishes off the card front.

For the interior decorating, a sentiment was stamped on another one of the patterned papers in the collection. This panel was matted and then adhered to the card interior.

The finished card is approx 5.5" square and will stand up for display.

They That Know Thy Name (Plus Bonus Card)

Happy Wednesday! It's time for a new challenge at Word Art Wednesday. This week's focus verse is Psalm 9:10, "And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee:  for thou, Lord, has not forsaken them that seek thee." The Psalmist has a close relationship with the Lord and knows that to really know the Lord is to trust Him. The more we spend time getting to know the Lord, the easier it is to trust Him. We will also realize the truth that the Lord doesn't forsake His own. I don't mean to imply that when we follow the Lord that life is all easy. It isn't. However, we never go through those trials alone and life, even when difficult, is worthwhile. Get to know the Lord and you will realize your trust is well placed in Him.

My card inspiration came from two sources. First I saw this card on Instagram and really liked how the flowers peeked out from underneath the raised off-set panel. My husband and I bought a house a last fall and one of the fun things we are enjoying about our yard this spring is all the surprises when something new comes up in one of the flower beds. The flowers below bloomed last week and I loved the colors. So they are the inspiration for my flower colors. As you can tell, both the card and the flowers were just a jumping off point for me.

Simon Says Stamp is our fantastic sponsor this week. I was able to use three of their exclusive products on my card and most of my other supplies are available in their store as well. I pulled out my favorite SSS stamp set, Always and Forever, for the flowers and leaves. They were colored with Copics and accented with a white gel pen before being fussy cut.  I wanted a subtle color for the background layer. I inked up the Gingham Background stamp with a light green ink. After printing the WORDart on my white cardstock, I cut this panel with the A2 Curved Edge die. I cut a piece of the green matting cardstock with the same die and layered it behind the verse panel. This panel was popped up over the gingham layer with craft foam. After arranging and adhering the flowers and leaves to the card front, the flower centers were accented with Stickles.

I wanted a little interior decorating as well. I stamped a scrap of white cardstock with the same ink and the Gingham Background stamp. I matted this strip and adhered it to the left side of the writing panel. I Copic colored and fussy cut a smaller flower and leaves from the Always and Forever set and added them to the bottom of the gingham strip.

I REALLY enjoy Simon Says Stamp products and just have to share another card I made using their products. Our grandson has pneumonia and this is the card I made for him. We have two gray kitties that he really likes and my mother-in-law (who lives with us) has a yellow one. I used the Christmas Cats Stamp set and dies to make a shaker card for him. I colored the cats with Copics to resemble our Sasha, Darius and Pudens. I used a double sided patterned paper for the card. I felt the one side was too bold so I used vellum for the shaker window instead of acetate to tone it down a little. I used my favorite Always and Forever stamp set from Simon Says Stamp to heat emboss the sentiments on the front. The hearts are coated with clear Wink of Stella.

Sasha and Pudens are popped up on fun foam and Darius is slightly hiding in the back.

I made a computer generated sentiment and stitched border in Word for the interior of the card. I had one yarn ball left, so I added it to the corner to help bring the design to the inside. This card shows that even though the name of the set is Christmas Cats, it can be used all year 'round for many occasions.
