I Trusted in Thee

It's time for another challenge at Word Art Wednesday. This week we're focusing on Psalm 31:14, "But I trusted in thee O Lord: I said, Thou art my God."  There are times in our lives that make us evaluate if we truly believe God is trustworthy. In this week's verse, the Psalmist has just made his evaluation and decision. Earlier this week, I was recounting to a friend of a time when I was in a deep valley and that I had to decide if what I said I believed about God and His comfort and strength was really true. I had to face that I could NOT go it alone in my own strength and that there was no earthly person who could fix things. I had to rely on the Lord and fully rest on Him. It was not easy or an overnight fix. I found a verse of comfort in the Bible that really spoke to me and imagined it as a trapeze bar that I was literally hanging onto with both hands. I felt like everything had dropped out from underneath me and that bar was all that was keeping me from falling. I would read, quote and pray that verse to the Lord and beg Him for His help. I acknowledged I couldn’t do it alone and needed His help. He was always faithful and kept me putting one foot in front of the other sometimes minute by minute. I agree with the Psalmist, "...I trusted in thee O Lord: I said, Thou art my God."

I chose to use this week's free WORDart (don't forget to go by the Word Art Wednesday blog and pick it up for yourself) on a book mark. I made the bookmark part of a gift set for a friend.

The verse was double matted before being adhered to the patterned paper layer. Three ribbons were threaded through the hole at the top of the bookmark and some baker's twine was tied in a bow to keep them in place.

A small notebook (3.75" x 5.5" closed) was decorated with a heat embossed quote by Jim Elliot and a few jewels. I tend to keep the covers of my notebooks fairly flat so that the embellishments don't get knocked off if the notebook is put down in a bag or purse.

The interior of the notebook has a small notepad on the right side. The back panel of the notepad slides down into a pocket so that it is replaceable. The left side of the interior has a large pocket and two small sticky-note pads.

One of my standard 5.25" x 8.25" junior legal size notebooks has a favorite quote by Corrie ten Boom heat embossed and then matted with dark brown cardstock. I thought this quote and the Jim Elliot quote went well with the focus verse this week. A few jewels decorate the flower centers.

The interior of the notebook has a pocket to hold the notepad on the right and another pocket on the left for odds and ends.

The thank you card uses MOJO Monday Sketch 524 for the design. The background panel was dry embossed and the sentiment heat embossed. A few clear jewels are the final embellishment.

There is a little interior decorating for the inside of the card.

Thanks a Latte!!

Today is the start of the 2018 Spring / Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop. I have a very simple card to start off with for this hop. I needed a quick thank you card for a fellow coffee lover. The My Favorite Things Blueprints 29 die set made this card quick and easy.

I filled the rectangles with sentiments and an image from Super Sponsor Joy Clair's Coffee Love stamp set (and svg files). These stamps were part of a prize I won on a previous Coffee Lover's Blog Hop. I used a heart die cut from another Super Sponsor, Lawn Fawn, to add an embellishment to the cup. The heart was coated with Wink of Stella and then Nuvo Crystal Drops. The latte cup was popped up over the panel.

Supplies:
Cardstock - Georgia Pacific (white), Bazzill (teal)
Stamps: Joy Clair (Coffee Love) clear stamp set and coordinating SVG files
Ink:  Memento (Tuxedo Black), VersaFine (Onyx Black)
Tools/Embellishments: Copic Markers, Nuvo Crystal Drops, Lawn Fawn Heart Dies, Wink of Stella (clear), My Favorite Things dies (Blueprints 29)

I am also entering this card in the following challenge:
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Use more than one stamp (I used 3)

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you enjoy your weekend.

Pastor Appreciation Gift Set

Hello! Thanks for stopping by today. It's time for another challenge at Word Art Wednesday. When I saw our focus verse, I knew that it would be perfect for a Pastor Appreciation gift for my husband. 1 Timothy 1:12 says, "And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry." After being in various music ministry positions for 13 years, the Lord called my husband, Tim, to be a pastor. That was over 20 years ago. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Tim would say that it is only because the Lord enables him day by day that he is able to care for the people in our church. Not that our people are difficult, they are not. Our church has a wonderful spirit of unity. It's because Tim feels such a great responsibility to lead them correctly and be a good example to them. He is a bi-vocational pastor so he has to do his studying, visiting, etc. outside of his 40 hour work week at a secular job. He sacrifices a lot of himself to spend time studying, praying, visiting, writing cards and notes and checking up on people via texts, emails and phone calls. I believe the Lord rewards Tim's faithfulness by continuing to give him the strength and wisdom to minister to our church family.

Tim is very supportive of my crafting endeavors so I like to do extra special things for him when making a project for him. He likes my notebooks and uses them to write down prayer requests on Wednesday nights and in keeping track of various items at work (separate notebooks). I noticed that his prayer list notebook was looking a little worse for the wear so I made him a new one. This time I tried putting a coordinating patterned paper as a binding around the spine. Along the edge of this I used jute ribbon and twine for decoration. The sentiment panel was inked before being double matted and adhered to the front.

I decorated the edge of the pocket with a strip of the patterned paper. Tim loves to fish so I wanted to use as much of this paper as possible. The interior was looking a little plain so a matted sentiment was also added above the pocket.

Tim sends out LOTS of cards to our church family when they need encouragement. To use more of the patterned paper, I made him a set of four coordinating cards. Two have a "Thinking of You" sentiment and two have a "Thank You" sentiment. I used Sketch #218 from Operation Write Home for my card design.

Here is a picture of the entire gift set.

A Trio of Thanks

This was a pretty quick card to put together and it used all scraps from other cards (except of course for the card base). Strips of patterned paper were layered with strips of navy cardstock from edge to edge on the A2 sized card front. The sentiment was white heat embossed and white gel pen adds faux stitching. The little coffee cups were colored with Copics and then fussy cut. A Tuxedo Black Memento marker was used on the cut edges and to darken up the hearts on the cup sleeves. A 1.25" square punch was used to punch 3 squares of kraft cardstock that was then dry embossed. These squares were matted on 1 3/8" squares of navy patterned paper and adhered to the card front. To finish off the card, the coffee cups were popped up using foam squares. I really like how this turned out and loved having a way to use up some of those scrap pieces of patterned paper. You'll probably see this sketch again.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections (kraft), Cor'dinations (Black Iris), Georgia Pacific (images)
Patterned Paper: Playing with Color 2 (Fall Patterned cardstock)
Stamps: Fiskars clear stamps (Latte Love), Stampabilities (Coffee)
Ink: VersaMark, Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Copics: YR 20, 21, 24; Y21; E41, 42, 43, 44
Other: Cuttlebug embossing folder (Swiss Dots), Simon Says Stamp fine detail embossing powder (white), Gelly Roll gel pen (white), Creative Memories Square Punch (1.25"), Memento Marker (Tuxedo Black)

I'm linking this card up in the 2017 Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop. I'm also linking it up in the challenges listed below:

Your Kindness Warms My Heart

I recently won this cup and saucers image from Scribbles. I love it and it was so fun to color that I've already colored it more than once. I used one of the dies from My Favorite Things Blueprint 1 to cut it out and lightly inked the cardstock with distress ink to cover the bright white. The leaf paper was die cut with a stitched die from MFT Blueprints 29 and the brown cardstock mat was die cut with the largest die in the Blueprints 1 set. The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed. The image and sentiment were popped up over the pretty leaf patterened paper. The leaves and coffee steam were embellished with stickles. The top saucer and cup were coated with Wink of Stella. In real life, the entire card front has such a pretty sparkle.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections (kraft for card base), Bazzill (Mocha Divine), Georgia Pacific (image and sentiment panels)
Patterned Paper: The Paper Studio
Stamps: Scribbles (Cup Saucer digi), Fiskars (Latte Love clear stamp set)
Ink: Taylored Expressions (Chocolate Truffle), Distress Ink (Vintage Photo)
Copics: starting from the bottom and moving upward - YR16, 18; E07, 09; E42, 44; E35, 37; YR 20, 21, 24
Dies/Embellishments: My Favorite Things Die-namics (Blueprints 1 & 29), Stickles (Star Dust), Wink of Stella (clear), Simon Says Stamp Fine Detail Embossing Powder (clear)

This card is for the 2017 Fall Coffee Lovers Bloghop.

I am also entering it at the My Creative Scoop Color Inspiration Challenge #26 which must include something hand colored.

I'll have one more card for you tonight and then please come back tomorrow for a new project for Our Daily Bread Designs.

Thanks A Latte

This card design was inspired by Operation Write Home Sketch #236. The image and sentiment are from the Verve Three Cheers Digi set. The image was colored with copics and a Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino was the inspiration for the color choices. The image was fussy cut and popped up over the background panels. The heart on the cup is coated with Nuvo Crystal Drops and a few random drops are scattered across the card. White gel pen dots add some interest to the solid cardstock fishtail banner.

Supplies:
Cardstock: The Paper Studio Heavy Weight (card panel), Georgia Pacific (white), Recollections (black)
Patterned Paper: Play with Color 2 (Fall Patterned Cardstock)
Stamps: Verve (Three Cheers Digi Set)

God Delights in Mercy

It's Wednesday and that means it's time for a new challenge at Word Art Wednesday! This week we're focusing on a verse from one of the minor prophets, Micah. Micah 7:18 says, Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy." The Israelites were in bondage because of their sin and it was because of God's incredible pardoning that they would come out of bondage. God is always ready and waiting to extend pardon and mercy whenever His children turn to Him in repentance. While we still have to face the consequences of our sin, He will always forgive. Why? Because He loves us and delights in showing us mercy. What a wonderful God we serve.

Our sponsor this week is the fantastic one-stop-shop, Simon Says Stamp. I used their Soft Navy Cardstock for the frame of my quilt as well as the blue cardstock matting. The hearts from the Texting stamp set were stamped on patterned paper with Versamark ink and embossed with SSS Fine Detail Embossing Powder in white. The hearts were fussy cut and accent the verse panel. The finished card is just under 5" x 7". Small pearls accent the quilt top.

When I stamped and cut the hearts, I had enough to do a little interior decorating.

As usual when using a quilt die, I had enough pieces to make multiple quilts. I also made these two A2 cards and used the Simon Says Stamp Many Thanks stamp set for the sentiment. I kept these cards flat for easy mailing.

To do the paper piecing, I found a product I love to use for the adhesive. I purchase this pack of adhesive sheets at my local Hobby Lobby in the fun foam aisle. The package comes with three sheets of double sided adhesive and costs just over $2. I was able to cover all three of the quilts in today's cards with just one sheet of adhesive and without any waste.

This past weekend, a good friend and I attended the StampAway show in Cincinnati. While there I was able to stock up on some Gina Marie Dies. This Quilt Die #4- Circle Die is my favorite of all her quilt dies. It cuts so easily and is so fun to paper piece. I purchased a metal cutting plate at the Our Daily Bread Designs booth and when I used it with this die I was amazed at how easily all the little pieces came out of the die. If you haven't checked out Gina Marie Dies, I'd highly recommend them. I love to support small businesses and I was thrilled to see her booth busy all day long.

It's time for the Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop and I wanted to play along. This card features the free digi that Jessica Lynn Original Stamps has available (after the hop it will no longer be free). You can download it here. Thanks, Jessica!!

The image was colored with copics and accented with a white gel pen before being die cut with a rectangular die. I wanted to keep the focus on the adorable owl drinking his morning coffee (or maybe my favorite, cappuccino) so I kept the rest of the card pretty simple. A sentiment on a banner die cut and some twine finish it off.

Cardstock: The Paper Studio Heavy Weight (white card base), Georgia Pacific (white for image), Bazzill (Bitter Chocolate)
Patterned Paper: Basic Gray (Out of Print 6 x 6 - retired)
Stamps: Jessica Lynn Originals (2017 Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop Digital Stamp), Fiskars clear stamp set (Latte Love)
Ink: Taylored Expressions (Chocolate Truffle)
Copics: E07, 08, 09, 31, 33, 35, 37, 41, 42, 43, 44; N0, 1, 3, 5; Y38, 11, 13, 15, 17; B21, 23, 26; YG03, 05, 07
Dies: Our Daily Bread Designs (Double Stitched Rectangles), WRMK (Party Banner)

My Soul, Wait...

Welcome back! It's time for another challenge at Word Art Wednesday!! This week we're back to one of my favorite books of the Bible, Psalms. Psalms 62:5,"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him." This Psalm is one of my "go-to" places in the Bible that I turn to when I need encouragement. The psalmist is reminding himself of all the ways God takes care of him and encourages him. In this week's focus verse, the psalmist is reminding himself to wait on the Lord. When tough times come, this is sometimes hard to do. Our society is full of instant everything. However, God's timetable is not always set on "instant." Sometimes He says, "Wait." It's always worth it and after God resolves a situation, I'm always glad I didn't run ahead of Him. However, it's usually hard to do. I'm learning but I have a long way to go.

Our sponsor this week is Simon Says Stamp. This company is truly one-stop-shopping. I was able to go to the Stampaway USA Convention with a friend earlier this month. Simon Says Stamp had a booth. I was so excited to meet some of the staff and I even was able to talk to Heidi Crowl! What a kind and gracious lady she is!! Even with all the hectic commotion of the vendor hall, she took time to talk with me, ask my name and answer questions. All of the staff at the booth was so kind and the crowds didn't seem to phase them at all. I was able to pick up some new SSS goodies and I am using several of them in today's card.

I saw a YouTube video by Jennifer McGuire where she a cool emboss resist technique. So, I gave it a try and added my own spin to it. On watercolor paper, I used SSS White Embossing Powder to heat emboss several of the solid floral images in the Artful Flowers Stamp Set. Then I inked my panel with three shades of Distress Ink (Shaded Lilac, Cracked Pistachio and Evergreen Bough). I spritzed the panel with my Mini Mister and then blotted it with a paper towel. I took the panel to my ironing board and sandwiched it between two sheets of copy paper. I ironed it with a hot iron until all the embossing powder melted off the watercolor panel and into the copy paper. Using the outline images from the stamp set, I stamped them with Versafine ink and heat embossed with SSS Clear Embossing Powder. I purposely stamped the outlines a little off the solid flowers to give more of a casual, playful look. I heat embossed the flower centers with gold embossing powder. Using another technique I learned by watching more YouTube videos, I smooshed a Black Soot distress ink pad on my clear acrylic block. After spritzing it with water, I used a paintbrush to flick spatters on my panel. As a final detail for the background, I spritzed it with shimmer spray.

Using circle dies, I cut out a circle in the bottom right of the panel and adhered the verse behind it. I die cut 4 circle frames from the dark gray cardstock and stacked them around the opening. Then I mounted the panel on dark gray cardstock and attached it to my card base. To finish it off I used SSS Assorted Moonshine Sequins and champagne sequins. I topped the sequins off with Star Dust Stickles.

I'm entering this card in these challenges:

Shopping Our Stash Challenge #267 - Learn Something New (the type of heat emboss resist technique I used and the ink splatters)
Through the Craft Room Door - Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp Work It Wednesday - Use Stamps

I had so much fun with the background technique that I had to make another card. For this card, the floral outlines were heat embossed with Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder. I die cut the inked and embossed panel with square dies and layered them in a telescoping technique. They were mounted on a piece of white cardstock that had the edges heat embossed with two layers of the embossing powder. This panel was adhered to a dry embossed white cardstock panel that was then mounted to a larger panel with heat embossed edges. This larger panel was adhered to the card base and covers the entire front of the card.

Using another technique shown by Jennifer McGuire in this Faux Metal Embellishment video, I stacked 3 SSS Thanks diecuts and then heat embossed them with 3 layers of the same embossing powder. I love the metallic look this gives the diecut. Sequins were scattered across all the layers. The flower centers and sequin centers were dotted with Eucalyptus Stickles.

I'm entering this card in this following challenges: Crafty Sentiments Challenge  - Lots of Layers

Both cards were entered in the Outlawz Twisted Thursday Challenge.

I hope you'll stop by the Word Art Wednesday blog to pick up your free digi and to see what the rest of the Design Team made. Also, be sure to stop by Simon Says Stamp. Tomorrow they kick off their annual Stamptember celebration. I can't wait to see what goodies and surprises they have in store for us.
