Strength and Honor

Last week my printer and computer were having a disagreement so I wasn't able to get a card ready for the Word Art Wednesday challenge.  I so enjoy this challenge and hated to miss posting.  Thankfully, my husband has my devices back on speaking terms so we're good to go for this week's challenge.  We're focusing on Proverbs 31:25 this week.  We traditionally think of Proverbs 31 as a Mother's Day type passage and it is good for that.  However, I got a new perspective on it tonight when I showed my card to my mother-in-law.  She said, "Oh, is that a card for {a female we both know}?"  I said, "I'm not sure."  She said, "It would make a good graduation card for her."  As I've looked at the card and thought about the verse, it truly would.  This particular graduate has persevered through great difficulties in order to reach this milestone.  She has also done it with grace, a dependance on the Lord and without advertising just how difficult things have been for her. We've seen such spiritual growth in her the last few years and I'm confident it's because she's exercised her faith in the Lord so much. She once told me the Lord has taught her things through all this that He couldn't have taught her any other way.  Trust me, there will be GREAT rejoicing on graduation day!!  She may be younger than I am but she is a true example and role model to me. 

I wanted this week's card to be feminine and sparkly.  Once of our wonderful sponsors, Fresh Brewed Designs, furnished the DT with some images to use.  I was able to play with the April image.  She was so fun to color with Copic markers.  I added some white gel pen details to her dress and umbrella and couldn't resist adding some Wink of Stella to her dress, shoes and lips.  The die cut image and sentiment panels were double matted and popped up over the background layers.  The patterned paper was also double matted.  A border punch, ribbon and pearls were used along the top of the card.  Some holographic clear sequins and some Peony Floral sequins were scattered over the card.  I used Multi-Medium Matte to adhere my sequins. The holographic sequins were topped with some Star Dust Stickles.

The card ending up having lots of shimmer and shine without too much of a glittery look.

He's Not Far Away

Happy Wednesday!!  It's time for another great challenge at Word Art Wednesday.  This week we're looking at a verse in the New Testament.  Acts 17:27 states, "That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us:"  This verse is talking about the omnipresence of God (the fact that He is everywhere at once).  He is near to each of us and has His eye upon us at all times.  It doesn't matter where we are, city, country, on land, in the air, on the water, or even out in space, God is never far from us.  Romans 8:38-39 states, "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." WOW!!  That's something to carry you through life and encourage you during the tough times.

For my card today, I wanted something bright and spring-y.  All around outside, we're seeing signs of new growth.  The trees are budding, lawns need mowed and flowers are starting to bloom.  Our neighbors have put up a few bird feeders and some beautiful birds are coming to feed there.  I chose to use this beautiful image of a wildflower bouquet and colored it with copics.  It was matted with black and put on a white embossed panel.  This really helps the colors in the wildflowers pop.  You can't tell in the pics but the flowers and butterfly were coated with a Wink of Stella clear glitter marker.

This week's verse was printed on vellum and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  It was then wrapped around the image panel.

Owl-ish Happy Birthday

Just a quick post to share this funny little owl and flower themed birthday card with you.  The owl is colored with Copics, die cut, matted and popped up on the card front. I followed the Sweet Sunday Sketch #264 for the card design.  As you can see, I stayed pretty true to the sketch.  My biggest addition is the fishtail banner for the heat embossed sentiment.

The interior of  the card received another sentiment and a little decorating.

Smart Owl

Hello, I hope your week is going well.  I'm sorry my post is so late.  I've had some computer/internet problems and wasn't able to get my post It’s time for another challenge at Word ArtWednesday.This week’s focus verse is one of my all-time favorite Scriptures. Psalms 126:3, “The Lord hath done great things for us whereof we are glad.”My brother sent me this verse after our son was in a car accident and only had minor injuries.Since that time, I’ve found that it is applicable in so many situations…good and bad. A wreck isn’t generally considered good news, but when the only un-crushed space in the car is the exact rectangle where your son is, yes, you can say, “The Lord hath done great things for us whereof we are glad.” When someone shares good news, it’s a great way to rejoice in how the Lord has worked in their life.When someone has reached a milestone or major accomplishment, that’s also a good time to rejoice in the great things the Lord has done.  

Robyn’s Fetish is one of our fantastic sponsors this week and I was able to play with Smart Owl.I thought it was perfect for this verse. When someone reaches the point of graduating from a course of study, that is cause for great rejoicing!! 

Smart Owl was colored with Copic markers. His eyeglass lenses were coated with Glossy Accents for some shine. He takes center stage on this 5.5" square gate-fold card.  The left-over pieces from a corner bracket punch frame the four corners. 

On the back of the image panel, this week's focus verse has it's own showcase.  Some background stamping adds some interest to the solid kraft cardstock.  A bracket punch sets off the interior sentiment. 

 When sandwiching the image and sentiment panels for the gatefold, there was a gap because of all the layers.  A piece of fun foam helped keep things level.  I didn't want the white of the foam to show, so I used Copic marker E29 to color the edges.

Blessed Be My Rock

This week's focus verse at Word Art Wednesday is very similar to last week's.  2 Samuel 22:47 says, "The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation."  This verse also encourages us to exalted the Lord and emphasizes that He is our rock.  This past week has been one of change for our family as it became evident that my mother-in-law needs a bit more care.  We are researching assisted living facilities and giving her options so that she can make the best choice for her needs.  These are big changes and important decisions for her (and for the rest of us).  In times of uncertainty and change, it such a comfort to know that the Lord is our rock and that our foundation is sure.

I printed a 2nd frame and fussy cut the flowers. They were popped up over the verse panel and this entire panel was popped up over the diamonds.

For the front of my card, I colored the cake with Copics to have purple flowers and ribbons.  After die cutting it with a square die, I matted it a couple times before adhering it to a 4" square card base.  Stickles were added to the flowers for some sparkle.

Since we were enclosing a gift card, I kept the card fairly flat so that it would mail easily. 

The interior uses another image from the set as well as one of the images.  The image was colored with Copics.  This is a simple little card but I think it also has a very elegant look.

The Lord Liveth

It's Wednesday and that means it's time for another challenge at Word Art Wednesday.  This week is a reminder that, "The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted."  Psalm 18:46  I'm so glad that we serve a risen Savior.  He is our rock and fortress both in good times and bad.  We think of Him as a rock of safety when we're having a difficult time but He is also our rock during good times too.  I think we can enjoy the good times more knowing that we are standing on a firm foundation.  He does so much for us and has provided salvation for us.  Yes, His name should definitely be exalted!!

I kept my card simple this week and let the Scripture be the focal point.  I really enjoy this paper that looks like a quilt.  I accented the centers of the design with some baby bling.  A little ribbon, a little faux stitching, a couple brads and rhinestones and this card is done.  This is my version of a CAS card.

Blooming Blessings

 

Today starts a new Digi of the Month Challenge at Deedee's Digis.  You must use the Digi of the Month set to participate in the challenge.  If you participated last month, you will receive this month's set for free.  If you didn't participate, then it's available for purchase in the store for a greatly reduced price.  Each month you participate in the challenge, you receive the next month's set for free.  This month's set is perfect for Mother's Day, feminine birthday cards, or just to let a friend know you're thinking of them.

I chose to use some of the pre-colored images in the set.  In Word, I layered the sentiment over the oval frame.  The frame comes with some small flowers on the lower right side.  However, since I was fussy cutting this, I made it easy on myself and fussy cut some of the individual flowers and just layered them on top.  I also added a group of flowers to the top of the frame.  The centers of the flowers were given a drop of Star Dust Stickles (my all-time favorite in the Stickles line).   I added shading around the interior of the frame and around the flowers with Copic Markers.

 The image panel was matted with a doily die cut and then popped up over the layered background.  A sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches (#292) was used for the card design.

The interior sentiment is not from Deedee's Digis.  I'd forgotten to print the interior panel and my hubby was taking a well-deserved nap.  I didn't want to printer to disturb him so I just stamped  the interior greeting with VersaFine ink.

Safety is of the Lord

It's Wednesday and that means it's time for another great challenge at Word Art Wednesday. Our focus verse this week is Proverbs 21:31, “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.”  When an army is preparing for battle, they go to great preparations.  They get a plan of attack ready, outfit their troops, pack ammunition and provisions, scout out the terrain, clean their weapons, prepare their armor (in ancient times) or uniforms, prepare their transportation (horses, camels, tanks, trucks, ships, etc.), and study the typical weather conditions.  However, even with these elaborate preparations, the outcome of the battle is still in the hand of the Lord.  Many times during the Old Testament time period, the children of Israel were outnumbered and/or had lesser equipment, but God intervened and they won the battle/war.  During WWII, the Germans planned to invade England via the English Channel.  On at least four different occasions, unusual and never seen in recorded history weather conditions prevented their attack.  God alone controls the weather. The Germans had made their preparations and timed the attack perfectly according to human reasoning, but truly “safety is of the Lord.”

Making preparations during a time of war or even for daily life is admirable and right.  In Luke 14:28, the question is asked, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?” As we look around our world today, we see so many things that can alarm and dishearten us.  We may feel that there is no way Truth and Right can prevail.  However, we must remember that whether we are acting as an individual or a nation, it is God that determines the outcome of all things. As John Phillips states in Exploring Proverbs Volume 2, “A nation’s best line of defense is an active trust in God.”  

When I saw the WORDart for this verse, I thought it would be perfect for a bookmark.  I really like the papers in this BoBunny paper pad and decided to use some favorite techniques with them:  inking and dry embossing.  I inked the edges of all the papers in Chestnut Roan chalk ink.  After dry embossing the patterned paper layer, I used the direct to paper technique with Walnut Stain distress ink. 

After stamping the compass image with the same Distress Ink, I die cut it and double matted it on two more circles.  After adhering all the layers, a metal eyelet and some rough twine finish it off.  Since I wanted it to stay flat, I resisted the urge to put some bling in the middle of the compass.  :) I love to read so this bookmark will be put to use pretty soon.

A Fairy Tale Come True

I'm back today with another project for my Guest Design Team spot at the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog.  You can see my first project for them this month using a Lunagirl image here.  As a reminder: The theme word for this month is Serendipity.  Serendipity means "fortunate happenstance" or a "pleasant surprise" (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serendipity) or luck that takes the form of finding valuable or pleasant things that are not looked for. (source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/serendipity). As I thought about what to do for my second project, I realized what could be a better example of "serendipity" than a fairy tale?  Fairy Tales are full of fortunate happenstance and pleasant surprises.  When I showed the colored image on today's card to our daughter-in-law, Amy, she said, "that looks like Cinderella!"  So, a Cinderella theme emerged.  Amy gave me some ideas for ways to incorporate the theme and even sent me a sketch to use.  I love having a crafty artistic daughter-in-law.  Since we live 8 hours apart, our crafting now takes place via texts and phone.  I'm thankful for technology.

The image of the couple is the "star of the show" on this card.  It's a beautiful digi generously provided to me by one of our fantastic sponsors, Sami Stamps.  I had to cut off part of the princess' dress when I die cut her but in the original image her dress flows so nicely.  After coloring the couple and background with Copics, the image panel was die cut and then triple matted.  Some rhinestones were added to the largest die cut.  I added dots of Stickles to the princess' dress and earring and added Wink of Stella to her hair. The printed vellum adds to the romantic theme.  Some iridescent sequins topped with more Stickles add more sparkle.  The flourishes on the corners of the background panel were heat embossed with sparkling embossing powder.  This provides a little more subtle shimmer.

I tried a "new to me" technique for the butterflies.  They are a free digi from Clkr.com.  I printed them on acetate.  I didn't want the edges of the wings to be quite as dark as they were so I laid them on a piece of scrap paper ink side down (carefully so I didn't smear them) and blotted the ink a bit.  Then I left them to dry overnight.  I colored the backs of them with two colors of Copic markers and then fussy cut them.  When fussy cutting acetate, I discovered it's much easier to put a piece of white paper behind the acetate and cut it out at the same time.  It's much easier on the eyes that way.  I slightly bent the butterflies in half, then rolled up glue dots into a tube and used them to attach the butterflies to the card.  This lets their wings  be raised up off the card.  Some pearls for their bodies adds the final touch.

I used one of my favorite romantic quotes for wedding and anniversary cards on the bottom panel of this 5.5" square easel card.  It was stamped with black ink and then clear heat embossed on the printed vellum.  More glitter paper and pearl strips anchor the vellum piece and more sequins topped with Stickles adds sparkle.

For the rest of the interior, I punched some small butterflies from a scrap of glitter paper and let them fly up the side of the card next to the heat embossed sentiment. They are only attached in the middle so that they also have dimensional wings.
