Captain America Father's Day Card

My husband is my biggest card making supporter. I really like to make him unique cards for holidays, special occasions and just because cards. Last week I saw the Jessica Lynn Original's Captain America Shield video tutorial. I also saw Jennifer McGuire's Triangle Gatefold Card tutorial. Since my husband really likes Captain America, I decided to combine them. I made the Captain America shield as the belly band element on the Triangle Gatefold Card. I made the star on the shield a die cut inlay.

I used a star embossing folder on the inner flap and then used an old Gina K Designs stamp set for the Father's Day sentiment and for the small stars stamped on the belly band and the interior.

I did minimal interior decorating. I just stamped a few more stars and left myself lots of room to write a message. My husband is a fantastic dad to our children and Papaw to our grands. I like to let him know I notice and greatly appreciate his dedication to our family. He really liked the card and has showed it to several people at church. I think this one was a hit.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Recollections (#110 white for card base), Darice (red), Bazzill (blue), Georgia Pacific (white)
Stamps: Gina K Designs cling stamp set (Masculine Tags - retired)
Ink: Ranger Archival (Cobalt)
Dies: Divinity Designs (Sparkling Stars and Double Stitched Circles), Stamp Simply (Fishtail Sentiment Banners)
Embossing Folder: We R Memory Keepers

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:
Cuttlebug Mania - Tic Tac Toe (I chose the far right column: sentiment, more than two layers, and embossing)
Outlawz Festive Friday Challenge - One of five themes including Father's Day

Thanks for visiting with me today. I hope you'll come back again soon.

The Just Man

This week's verse at the Word Art Wednesday challenge is one that is person for a Father's Day card.  Proverbs 20:7, "The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him."  One of the definitions of integrity is "adherance to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty" (Dictionary.com). That is something that is missing in much of our society. If a child has a father who is also a man of integrity, then they are truly blessed. A man who keeps his word, is honest in his dealings and does his best to live a just (proper, right, righteous) life is truly a treasure. If you have a man like this in your life (father, husband, son, grandfather, uncle, etc.), then he needs to be celebrated and commended. It takes a lot of effort to live a life of integrity in the world today. Our men need to know we notice and appreciate their hard work.

One of our sponsors this week is Bugaboo stamps.  I was able to play with one of their Topper images called Hat Boy.  I think he is just adorable. I really like the way he's designed to hold things. It made it so easy to have him hold the verse "sign."

After coloring the boy with Copics, he was fussy cut and attached to his "sign." Then he was layered on top of an embossed circle.  This matted circle was popped up with some fun foam over the background paper.

The Happy Father's Day sentiment is bordered by two strips of washi tape and anchored by brads.  There is a little interior decorating as well.

Top Tip Tuesday Tip: When I add a new die set to my collection, I immediately cut out all the pieces.  If they are "nesting" types, I label them with the die name and assign a # with the smallest being #1. I store these samples with the dies.  When designing a card, having these samples makes it easier to know if a certain die will fit in the space available and/or if a stamp will fit on the die cut I'm wanting to use.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Papertrey Ink (image and verse panel), Georgia Pacific (all other white), Recollections (navy and kraft)
Patterned Paper: Recollections
Digi Stamps:  WORDart by Karen (Proverbs 20:7); Bugaboo Digi Stamps (Hat Boy);  Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps (Father's Day Sentiments Digital Stamp)
Copics: Skin (E00, 01, 11; R20); Hair (E31, 35; Y21); Shirt (N01, 1, 3; B21, 23, 26); Hat (R22, 24, 27, 29; N5)
Tools/Embellishments: Spellbinders dies (Classic Circle Large, Petite Scalloped Circle Large), My Favorite Things Die-namics (Mini Scallop Edge (used on the interior)), Cuttlebug embossing folder (wiss Dots), washi tape (Craft Essentials), brads (American Crafts - denim), Staedtler fine tip marker (black)

I'm entering this card in the following challenges:

Dad: The Glory of Children

Hi, Friends!!  I hope your week is off to a good start.  This week's focus verse at Word Art Wednesday is Proverbs 17:6, "Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers."  This verse reminds us that one of the greatest joys in life is to see our grandchildren (children's children).  We have one precious grandson and what a joy he is.  I also get so much joy watching our son be a daddy.  The love between those two is strong and does our hearts good to see.  It is a glory or privilege to me to have had a wonderful father.  Dad was one of the most self-sacrificing men I know.  He did so much for me just because he loved me.  Dad went Home to be with the Lord 6 years ago.  While I'm thrilled that he and Mom have been reunited and that he's now with the Savior he served for so many years, I still miss him dearly.  I'm also very thankful that our children have a Dad that loves them with a self-sacrificing love.  I don't know of anyone (including myself) that prays for our children more than my husband does.  What a treasure!!

I kept my card pretty CAS this week...and once again NO patterned paper.  That's hard to believe isn't it?  I borrowed a cool embossing folder from a friend that does has dots in graduated sizes as it goes up the panel.  I'd never seen one like that before.  The ties are from Deedee's Digis adorable set, "Not a Tie."  It was last month's set for the Digi of the Month challenge.  You can see a preview of the full set in the pic below.  Love that panda!!

In case you hadn't heard the good news,  Deedee's Digis now has a store of its own!!  I'd encourage you to stop by and read all about the details here.  Deedee is launching the store with a freebie and a great sale.  I know you won't want to miss it.

Back to my card, I printed the pre-colored ties out twice and fussy cut them.  The original image has them hanging from a line.  Since I was cutting them out, I chose to use baker's twine for the line.  The twine is knotted on each end and attached with brads.  One set of ties was adhered to the embossed panel and the twine was adhered on top.  The bottom of the 2nd set of ties was popped up while the knot was glued on top of the string.  There is faux stitching around the ties, embossed panel and sentiment panel.  A few more brads and gems finish off the front.

Supplies:
Cardstock:  Recollection (kraft), Bazzill (green), Georgia Pacific (ties and sentiment)
Stamps:  Papercraft Memories (Proverbs 17:6), Deedee's Digis (Not a Tie)
Tools/Embellishments:  gems (Want2Scrap), brads (Making Memories), Uni-ball signo white gel pen, Staedtler fine tip black marker, The Twinery baker's twine (charcoal), Spellbinders M'Bossabilities embossing folder (Graduated Dots)
