I Will Be Glad and Rejoice

Hello! I hope your week is going well. It's time for another challenge at Word Art Wednesday and this week we're focusing on a verse in Psalms. Psalm 9:2 says, I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most high. When you think of all the blessings in your life, how can you help but rejoice in the Lord and sing His praises? A friend and I were just emailing tonight about how grateful we are for our friendship, even though we've never met in real life. The Lord definitely gave me a great blessing when He allowed our online paths to cross. It's easy to rejoice in the good times but it's more challenging to rejoice when we're going through deep waters. My nephew's wife is experiencing some major health issues and yet she continues to praise the Lord and express her trust in Him. She is praising the Lord even though she's suffering. Her posts may be to encourage herself but she's also an encouragement to me. Today's card will be going to her.

I've wanted to try two-step stamps for a long time. I was gifted a set of floral images from The Ton Stamps and couldn't wait to get them inky. I've been impatiently waiting to get settled from the move in order to do so. I used 10 different colors of ink on this card. That has to be a record for me. I started by making my own patterned paper with several of the flowers and leaves. After printing this week's WORDart and cutting it to a tag shape, I accented the tag with some of the images. The tag was double mounted with cardstock and popped up over the stamped background. The front was finished off the a burlap ribbon knot and a scattering of small rhinestones. The rhinestones trail across the card on the diagonal to help keep the eye moving.

I was having so much fun that I didn't stop with the card front...I decorated the inside of the card too.

And then, I decided that the envelope should get some attention as well. I'll be reaching for this set again and again.

I am finally emerging from the piles of boxes! We survived the move and are gradually getting things unpacked and put away. We've spent the majority of our time getting my mother-in-law's part of the house unpacked and organized so that she'll be comfortable as soon as possible. I have a card to share with you this week, for the newest Word Art Wednesday challenge. It felt like it had been forever since I'd made a card! As we head into the Christmas season, our theme verse this week very appropriately focuses on the true meaning of Christmas...Christ's birth. This week we turn to the Old Testament for a verse that prophesied the Lord's birth, Isaiah 7:14, Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. God the Father gave the sign so that there would be no question that this was His Son. As we all make our preparations for Christmas, let's not forget why we are celebrating. Jesus was born in a manger so that he could provide salvation for us. Christmas is the day we celebrate Jesus' birth. What will you give Him for His birthday this year? What will I?

I wanted to keep the focus on this beautiful verse so I chose an old Mojo Monday sketch (MOJO217) that let the verse panel be the focal point. I wanted to play along with this week's The Kraft Journal challenge, so I used some green paper and the button and star sequins bring in some gold.

I added some stickles and sequins to accent the pattern in the papers. The card base, ribbon, twine and cream cardstock are all from The Kraft Outlet. The button is one that has been in my stash for a long time. I used pop dots on the back to attach it to the card and to keep the shank from making it wobbly. The edges of all the papers were inked with Distress Ink.

World Card Making Day

Happy World Card Making Day ("WCMD")!!! Today is a day set aside worldwide to celebrate our craft. Naturally, Deedee's Digis couldn't let it pass us by without a special event to celebrate! So here's what we've got for you today: "Pick Your Pal" Tic-Tac-Toe!

As you can see, Deedee created a fun game board for you. (Click on it to enlarge it if you need to!) How do you play? Easy-peasy!

1. For my card, I chose to use Row 8: Keep it clean and simple, Mail your card right away, Use a non-freebie Deedee's Digi image. This would mean that if I were linking up my card in the challenge I would win Puppy Pumpkin Pal for free.

These images are from the Dad's Day Off set were Copic colored and then fussy cut. To make the dog an American Pemroke Welsh Corgi, I "docked" his tail. I then designed the background to resemble a wallpaper wall (the stripes are crooked on the paper), a baseboard and carpet. To make the baseboard, I coated a strip of white cardstock with Versamark and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. I repeated the Versamark and embossing powder layers for a thicker end result. The carpet was dry embossed and then distress ink was used to bring out the embossed pattern. The images were popped over with foam squares over the background layer. The sentiment was computer generated and the fishtail banner was hand cut.

Watermelon Hello

For my final project as a Guest Designer for The Kraft Journal Challenges, I let this week's Watermelon Challenge theme influence my choice of colors for this card and for the image I used. The card base for this Flip Card is a piece of Lunch Bag Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock. I first saw this fun fold on YouTube in this Flip Fold video by France Martin. The digi image was colored with Copic markers and die cut before being double matted on red and green cardstock.  Instead of using patterned paper, I stamped the red cardstock in a random pattern with red ink and then randomly  made lots of white dots all over this panel. The sentiment was stamped on a tag and tied with pieces of Red Baker's Twine and Dark Green Baker's Twine.

The black scalloped circle frame was accents with Enamel accents. As you open the card, the image panel rotates to flip through the front opening and be visible on the inside.

There is room inside for a message. This finished card is standard A2 size.

Floral Thanks

For this week's CAS - Thank You challenge at The Kraft Journal, I chose to stamp my own background. I started with a piece of Buff Ivory Cover Weight Cardstock. The texture in this cardstock really adds a neat dimension to the finished design. After layering a hexagon mask over the cardstock, I did some ink blending with a sponge dauber. After removing the mask, I stamped flowers, leaves and swirls in various colors of ink. A white gel pen was used to add highlights to the flowers and leaves. A stacked die cut "thanks" was added to the front and topped with Glossy Accents.

The front panel was matted with purple cardstock. Dove Gray Hand Stained Bias Tape was tied around the panel before mounting it to a card base made from more of the Buff Ivory Cover Weight Cardstock. In the pic above you get a sneak peek of how the design was carried to the inside.

Happy Birthday Loon

For this week's Anything Goes - Birds challenge at The Kraft Journal, I chose to feature my all-time favorite bird, the loon. I saw this Fancy Fold Corner Card Dawn Giffith's YouTube Channel. As with many new-to-me fancy folds, I wanted to give it a try. The card base was made with Brown Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock. After making the fancy corner fold and stamping it with various colors of distress ink, the Copic colored image was double matted and added to the card front. An Antique Silver Label Holder was added to the front and the sentiment was stamped on Buff Ivory Cover Weight cardstock and glued inside.

The interior has Buff Ivory Cover Weight cardstock layered over striped patterned paper.

Countdown to Fun

My project for this week's Take Your Pick challenge at The Kraft Journal is a countdown calendar for our 5 year old grandson. It is designed to help him count down the days until my husband and I go to visit him on his birthday weekend. I was able to pack 4 (red, embossing, die cuts, and washi tape) of the 8 choices in the simple design of the front cover. I started with a base of Lunch Bag Kraft cardstock (my favorite The Kraft Outlet cardstock). The folded size of this project is 5" x 8". My cardstock base is in two sections. The first piece was cut to 8" x 10.5". It was scored on the long side at 5" & 10". The second piece was cut at 5" x 8". I added scrappy tape (like Scor-tape) to the 1/2" strip on the first panel and used that to adhere the smaller panel. This gave me a strip 15" long that was scored at 5" & 10" in mountain and valley folds. Since I only needed 3 places to put my calendars, I folded the last setion back and adhered the sides to make a pocket. {That is probably clear as mud since I forgot to take pics of the construction process. See the last picture in this post for a little clarification.}

For the cover red cardstock and patterned paper  was layered over the base kraft cardstock. Using a VersaMarker, all the cars  were embossed with clear embossing powder. The computer generated sentiment and a red mat were die cut. A piece of white cardstock was cut as a mat for the sentiment and then covered with Notebook Grid Paper Tape (aka washi tape).

I printed 3 monthly calendars that I found as free downloads on the internet. I then added the countdown numbers with a black sharpie.

The final month of the countdown calendar is on the back. Stickers to mark off each day are tucked into the pocket.

Back to School Book Worm

For this week's Back to School Challenge at The Kraft Journal, I chose to make an extra large card (5.25" x 8.25") for our grandson. A large tag was cut from Lunch Bag Kraft Cardstock for the inside of the bag. A piece of white cardstock was layered on top and embellished with Notebook Grid Paper Tape. This tape was also used to made a hole reinforcement for the top of the tag. To make the reinforcement, I lined up two short strips of tape side-by-side on a piece of white cardstock. Using a small circle die, I die cut a circle and then punched a hole in the middle with my Crop-o-Dile. White Twill Tape was threaded through the hole and tied off with baker's twine.

After inserting the tag into a  Large Notebook Merchandise Bag, I wrapped Red , Brown Kraft  and Dark Green Baker's Twine around it. A button from my stash was added to the twine before tying it off in a knot. I then adhered the bag to a base of Lunch Bag Kraft Cardstock. The top of the base was trimmed to match the shape of the bag. I matted the Copic colored image and a piece of a Vintage Dictionary Page on cardstock from my scrap basket and layered them on the bag front. More scrap cardstock was cut into fishtail banners to add to the top of the bag. The computer generated sentiment was added to a die cut banner and popped up over the baker's twine. The worm's glasses and the highlights on the apple were accented with a glaze pen. Our grandson's name was written with a Sharpie near the top of the bag.

Inspirational CAS

This week's theme at The Kraft Journal is to make a CAS (clean and simple) card that is inspirational. As a patterned-paper-multi-layers addict, I find CAS challenges truly a challenge. I started this week's card with a Lunch Bag Kraft Note Card as my card base. Then I stamped a floral background stamp in white pigment ink on a piece of Lunch Bag Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock. The sentiment was stamped on the back of an Admit One Ticket Tag. After stringing the tag with Red Baker's Twine, I  wrapped the twine around the stamped cardstock and then layered it on the note card.  Some Copic colored butterflies and pearls finish off the card. 

A piece of Buff Cover Weight Cardstock was layered on the inside to make it easier to write a message.

Purse-Sized Gift Set Duo

For this week's Anything Goes - NO Cards challenge at The Kraft Journal, I chose to make a gift set for our daughter of a purse-sized notebook holder and a business card wallet. Both items have a base of Buff Cover Weight Cardstock with Lunch Bag Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock used to mat the patterned paper and sentiments. All the computer generated sentiments and the business cards were printed on Buff Cover Weight Cardstock. 

Our daughter has loved books since her toddler days and we spent hours upon hours in the library during her childhood. For this reason, I thought the vintage library card catalog paper was quite appropriate. She has turned that love of reading into a career and is now a published author and style editor. And yes, I am her biggest fan! :)

The interior of the business card holder uses two Lunch Bag Kraft Card Sleeve Envelopes that were covered with patterned paper to hold the cards. Since I don't have one of her current business cards, I made these sample cards as props to use during the project's photo shoot.  Her website, K. D. Winchester, is publishing focused and covers a broad range of  items.  On her blog, she does frequent book reviews from all types of genres. If you have specific questions about the content of a certain book, feel free to ask her via her contact page.

Kendra loves book lists and has quite a lengthy "Books I Want to Read" list of her own. I thought this quote on the front of the notebook holder was quite appropriate. The notebook holder is embellished with an Antique Silver Label Holder. 

The interior of the notebook holder has a 3 x 5 notepad. The backboard of the notepad slips into a pocket so that it can be replaced when all the sheets are gone. The front cover has a pocket where small items can be tucked for safe keeping. The finished size of the notebook holder when closed is 3.75" x 5.5".

For extra stability, the spine of the holder was also covered with cardstock mat and patterned paper layer.

A Shell in Your Pocket

This week's challenge at The Kraft Journal is a Pick Three challenge.  Choose your choice of at least 3 items from the chart.  For my easel card, I started with a Lunch Bag Kraft Note Card. The beach patterned paper was layered on a piece of Lunch Bag Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock.  All the shells are colored with Copics. As a child, growing up in Florida meant we spent a lot of fun days collecting shells on the beach.  Ocean...shells...beach....all bring back memories of those fun times.

A Mini Polka Dot Kraft Merchandise Bag holds a tag, also made from Lunch Bag Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock, for a message or a gift card. The "hello" die cut was by stacking two diecuts cut from Lunch Bag Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock and one diecut of patterned paper. 

I managed to fit five of the items from the list on my card: beach, shell, aqua, sentiment and punch.

Happy Anniversary

When I saw this week's Mojo Monday sketch, I knew I wanted to use it. I needed an anniversary card for a friend and that was the perfect excuse to give it a try.  Since I had watercolored this image already, the card came together so quickly! It has some of my favorite elements on it....lots of layers, lots of dies (there are a total of 6 different dies from 3 different companies), faux stitching and shimmer from a Wink of Stella pen. I thought this couple enjoying spending time together at the beach on a summer evening was perfect for a summer anniversary.

This week's challenge is a Summer theme. I think this adorable little girl looks like she is enjoying a bright, sunshiny summer day by collecting a bouquet of flowers. The image was colored with Copic markers, die cut and then matted on a eyelet circle die cut. A few sequins topped with tiny rhinestones were scattered on the image panel for a little sparkle. The card base and die cut mat are made from Lunch Bag Kraft Cover Weight Cardstock. The patterned paper was embossed with an embossing folder and then matted with Buff Cover Weight Cardstock. This same cardstock was used for the sentiment panel and for the interior of the card. The side panels were wrapped with Dark Green Baker's Twine.

I saw this Center Panel Easel Card on Dawn Griffith's YouTube channel.  This was a new version of Easel card for me so I had to give it a try. The border die that I used to line the interior panel also cuts out these little flowers.  I used them to embellish the side panels and added rhinestones to their centers. 

The finished card is a standard 4.25" x 5.5" when folded.
